D J Bewley undertakers lose appeal

D J Bewley undertakers in New Park Street have lost their appeals against the retention of the oversized signs which were installed on their premises more then a year ago. The Trust objected to the signs which were considerably larger than those approved in the original application. Following enforcement action by Wiltshire Council, Bewley appealed to the Planning Inspectorate but this apppeal has now been rejected.
A Wiltshire Council enforcement officer has written to the company requesting that they remove the signs within 28 days. The officer will re-visit the site to check on compliance following that timeframe. There is no right of appeal against the Planning Inspector's decision and, as a Listed Building Enforcement Notice has been issued, the enforcement officer will prosecute for non-compliance if they refuse to take the action required.
This has been a very long and costly process but is a triumph for the planning system.
