Minutes of the meeting of the Trustees held at Wiltshire Museum at 7:30pm on Monday 11th July 2022

Present: Philippa Morgan (PM) Hon Secretary, James Flood (JF) Hon Treasurer, John Girvan (JG), Mark Boden (MB), David Dawson (DD)

Apologies: Ian Sharp (IAS), Inez Skinner (IS), Richard Ormerod (RO)

1. Minutes of the meeting held on 13th June 2022 were discussed and agreed.

2. Matters Arising – There were none.

3. Correspondence – PM reported that there had been no correspondence.

4. Honorary Treasurer's Report: JF reported that the bank balance on the date of meeting was £8524.65. No problems reported.

5. Planning Matters:

RO's monthly planning report was discussed and the following issues were raised

 

PL/2022/04342 – The Isis, London Road – demolition of bungalow and construction of 5 terraced houses

RO noted that the original proposal had been for a very bulky block of flats. The revised application was more like other developments on the London Road. It was agreed to submit 'No objection'.

 

PL/2022/04468 – The Coach House, Castle Grounds – remove beech tree to ground level

RO reported that the tree appears to be terminally damaged. It should be replaced but if not then left to regenerate naturally.

 

PL/2022/04505 – 6 The Brittox – replacements of shopfront and signs

No comment

 

The Trustees then discussed the outline proposals for the development of the former cottage hospital site on New Park Road. It was agreed that the Trust's submission should emphasise that there should be the maximum affordable houses, that the development should follow the principles of 'Build Beautiful' and that the development should be sympathetic with the Victoria Road conservation area.

 

PM advised theTrustees that she and RO had been tasked with working on a new design code for Devizes as part of the Neighbourhood Plan. This would I nvolve reviewing the Devizes Town Centre Design Code from 2007 but also looking at the need for a code to cover new developments. The Dorset design code was mentioned as a possible example to review. NOTE This subject will be on the agenda for the August meeting.

6.Publications and website – Trust News for August was in development. PM asked for contributions.

7. Membership and Marketing – No update

8. Any other business – JG raised the question of pigeon feeding in the Market Place. This was under review by Town Council, with Cllr Greenwood in the lead.

The issue of cycling on the pavement was also raised. This is an ongoiing problem.
