Survey of members' travel habits reveal appetite for walking

The survey was designed to find out how much the community depended on cars and how "green" our members are.
It was a small survey and those surveyed were almost exclusively retired or near retirement. However some of the resuts were somewaht surprising. They are summarised in the following charts;
Whilst the main car was used on average just over 4 days a week, nearly three trips a week were made to Devizes by car.
Only 44% of households owned a bike and, interestingly, 58% of those never cycled into town, It is impossible to draw conclusions from such a limited survey, but further work may well reveal that people do not feel safe cycling along busy roads.
The number of people who walked into town regularly was very encouraging and certainly shows that work to improve walking access should continue.
