Quakers’ Walk, St. Monica’s Trust and the Primary Care Centre
Having studied the impact of the proposed development on Quakers’ Walk, the Trust is determined to oppose the proposals. There are two issues which concern us. Firstly it is well known that traffic levels in Devizes are approaching saturation, particularly along the London Road corridor. The only vehicular access to the proposed development will be London Rd. Bearing in mind that the PCC will carry out all the activities of three GP surgeries, Devizes Hospital and the Health Centre and will be alongside a Retirement Village with 100 homes, a Care Home and a Dementia Centre, it is obvious that it will generate a very large amount of additional traffic. Our second objection is the loss of yet another open space to the developers. As Devizes expands it is important to keep such spaces close to the town centre and we see no pressing need for this large development to be on Quakers Walk.
The Trust is disappointed that the PCT has failed to consult the public on its change of plan and is determined that the people of Devizes should have their say. That is why we have decided to hold a public meeting on 18 March in the Bear Hotel at 7.30. All are invited to tell the meeting how they feel about the plans now with the Council Planners.
